Queen of the South make tax pledge
THE £100,000 income tax demand faced by Queen of the South will be addressed within days, says Queen of the South chairman David Rae.
It was revealed at the club’s annual general meeting that directors were in negotiations with the Inland Revenue over a demand for £100,000,
Queens have been going through a cash crisis over the past five months because of a series of postponed matches caused by the worst winters for decades.
Mr Rae said that the matter was being dealt with.
He said: “I can confirm that we have had the demand for £100,000 and it will be addressed in the next few days.”
Queens lost £455,000 up to the end of last May and a further loss is expected this year.
But the chairman said earlier that it was hoped that the club would be at a break-even stage by the end of 2011-12 season.
Queens have still to announce whether the club will continue with full time football for next season.
The chairman said: “I have made it crystal clear that we have to get the ALBA Cup final out of the way first. It promises to be a great day out at Perth and I’m hoping that ticket sales will continue during this coming week.”
Queens are due to meet Ross County in the final at McDermid Park on Sunday April 10.
He added: “I’m hoping that we will have a big support at the final and also that the fans will turn out for the remaining games we have at home this season. We have four left, two on a Saturday and two midweek.”
